The 2.10 Recommendation is great, but I don't think the Ren can really take advantage of all the new features, which is why I would recommend one of the more modern MPCs. If you dont want to spend $2200, get the Live MK2, if you don't need the battery, speakers, or CV gates, Get the One. The Ren is basically the X in controller mode.

Akai Professional developed and produced a wide range of music production devices such as multitrack recorders, synthesizers, digital audio samplers and more. If you compare the Ren to the X, it's a no Brainer to get the X for all of the modern features. Akai Professional was founded in 1984 as a subdivision of the Akai brand. The fun comes when you power up the MPC in standalone mode in a bedroom, living room, or outside, when you are free to be inspired and creative, without the conundrums of software bugs, installation, and the internet (which can be a HUGE distraction from beatmaking). I have Ableton, Logic, and ProTools, so there's no software limitations for me. When the Ren came out, the idea of having to be stuck to the computer all the time to make music seemed backwards to me.

Why are you still using the Ren? What's so compelling about having to be stuck to the computer all the time? (Not trying to hate, just trying to understand your justification) Most users of the Modern MPCs (One/X/Live) bought them for the same reason I did, Standalone Mode.
